A thought - if one wasn't going to max out their IRA plus 401(k), but felt the Roth wasn't right for them now, they should consider A) 401(k) up to the matching limit B) then fund deductible IRA - $5K up to age 49. $6K 50 or older. C) then back to 401(k) This leave the potential for partial conversions to Roth in a year that the taxes suggest it. A nice article.
