Both were equally great plans, so I decided to roll it over and have it all in one place. I left the second job and took a job that offers a pension (instead of a 401K). But the 401K at my last job was so great that I left the funds there (did not rollover to anywhere). It has great investment options and I had way more than enough to stay on the company’s reduced fee structure – which are less than any IRA. I can’t contribute to the “old 401K” anymore, but I review and rebalance it every year.

The first time I switched jobs, I rolled over the old 401K into the new 401K.
